Happy Thanksgiving, 2007

Happy Thanksgiving to all family and friends. We hope all enjoyed the meal, the gatherings and togetherness. Our house was filled with food, fun and now....tons of leftovers. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes - those are the best kind of leftovers. Enjoy the photos of our holiday feast.

Mommy's helper: I had to include some photos of William helping me make the stuffing. He had so much fun shredding the bread and mixing the stuffing. Too much fun sticking your hands in the gooey mixture! Just what boys love to do.

My Sister's Keeper, November's book club selection

I have finished our selection for this month's book club, My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult.

Some thoughts about the book:
I thought it was good. It did hold your interest and attention. I did not think it was a fast read, one that I did not want to put down and just HAD to finish. The premise of the book was a tough one for me....having a child to be a donor for a terminally ill child...and then continuing to have the well child serve as a donor for the ill sibling. I had a hard time relating to the mother in the story and her decisions throughout the book. I felt more of a connection to the father. He seemed to be going through life just trying to get through it and not piss off his wife. The same goes for 2 of her 3 children in the story. I am sure that this book is close to nonfiction for some families, but I am glad that it is pure fiction in my life and family. I am ready for a new selection....one with an easier subject....maybe some fluff.

Late summer days and William's birthday

Today seems to be the catch-up day for blogging and uploading pictures. Over the summer, William had his first sleepover with his friend, Caleb. Here are some pics from that time....

Playing in the circle with the neighborhood kids.

Paulie getting a free ride in style and comfort. Can you find him amongst all the stuffed animals?

Making cupcakes and having some good ole fun with icing.

Is is me or are they orange? No, that would be red clay. Boys being boys, having fun playing, running and splashing in the big orange rain puddles.

William turned four on September 24. We had a great birthday party with all the neighborhood kids and friends from school. Mom had fun making her first of many childhood memory cakes. This year, for my first cake, I made a train cake. Thanks, Angie. Knowing you made Ashlyn's gave me the courage to try mine. And, I have to say it turned out pretty good! Oh, and the cake was the bomb!

Happy Birthday....a bit belated

My friend, Kim, turned the big 4-0 oh...way back....in September....and I am just now getting around to posting it. But, hey at least I posted it. She had a great day that warm September day! A surprise birthday breakfast and then a surprise birthday dinner...complete with gag gifts and some serious ones too. Here are some shots from her special, special day.

If you ever meet Kim, she will tell you it is okay to call her "baby girl". So we thought it was only appropriate to get her a shirt with her name on it. Ya know, to celebrate her special day. Oh, and pink is her favorite color. If you can't read the shirt it says:
Baby Girl's growing up

Here are some shots from the dinner. Jenna, Kim's daughter and our favorite babysitter, looks to darn cute in these glasses!

The Hibbs family!
Some of the surprise breakfast.

Von Gunten/Faulkenberg Indiana Reunion

Ok, ok, ok.....I have finally gotten around to posting some of the pictures from my weekend in Indiana....you know, the weekend over Labor Day. I thought that the pictures were on a CD that is stuck in my computer....we need a new computer....anyway, I found a file of the pictures tonight on the computer. So, I have uploaded several of the pics to the flicker! Spend some time on the blog and enjoy watching them. They are cute. I am going to try and put some good ones up.....but you never know when I will get around to that. I still have the Liser montage to complete. As if blogging is the only thing in my life.........

Cookie time....smile

It is that time of the day.....cookie time! You can tell who knows what time of day it is....Paulie! His smile, so warm, full of teeth, honest, and forever looking for kisses, says gimme that cookie! Sometimes I have to remind myself he is my kid cause he is just too darn cute!

October's book club selection

We selected our book for October - Eat, Pray, Love. What can I say about this book......I LOVED IT! Now, I have to be honest and say I have not completely finished it.....I didn't go to book club this month because of company.....so I did not feel the pressure to finish the book for the meeting.

Back to the book......I am always putting in asides and I don't mean to, they just happen.....anyways, back to the book. I loved it. I thought that Ms. Gilbert has wonderfully honest in her quest for self-acceptance, self-respect and self-love. It was easy to relate to her struggles....though we are in very different roles and phases of our lives.....but her struggles and how she wrote about them made it easy for me to connect. She so easily conveyed angst, frustration, worry, obsession, fear, longing, acceptance and so many more human....and really womanly.....experiences and feelings. I wanted her to find happiness and all that life had to offer....I hope she does (remember, I still haven't finished the book). And, I give her many, many, many kudos for having the guts to write about her personal life at one of the most painful and gut wrenching times.....and then to have it published for all those to read....those that have been hurt in the process of her divorce. I admire her for putting it all out there....for others to read....and then comment on. It is a great book and one I recommend to anyone on a quest for self.

Flicker photos

Ok.....since it has been some time since my last post, I am taking the lazy way out and uploading several of my photos to the flicker. That is the little slide show ticker of flashing photos on the right side of my blog. If you want new pictures, watch the flicker.

Happy Halloween, 2007!

After much urging and persistent begging from SEVERAL people.....who will go unnamed......I have finally updated my blog! I know that many of you really just want picture after picture after picture of William and Paul.....and really, I do want to provide you with this joy....but sometimes at the end of the day I just want to escape to my bedroom and watch mindless tv. Really, is that too much to ask for?

Okay, okay, okay, so enough of my babble. Here are some pictures of the boys from Halloween. William was a scary skeleton and Paulie was a bear. A ferocious bear I might add. All the kids were scared to death of him. How could they not be when he is so darn cute....and scary.
