Happy Mother's Day!

We celebrated Mother's Day today and throughout the weekend. William decided that yesterday was Mother's Day....not today. So I got special Mother's Day presents both days. How lucky am I?!?!?!?! Daddy even remembered Mother's Day while away on his "business trip" and sent these beautiful flowers. A rose for every day that we have to wait till baby Cate arrives. He is a true romantic. I think he is ready to get back to his boys and his girl(s).

Our Mother's Day was very relaxing. Gaga and I rested and relaxed while the boys played. We then cleaned up the toys from the backyard and had a wonderful Mother's Day dinner from Outback Steakhouse carried in. The boys are now in bed and we will soon be following.

Strawberry pickin'

We did not know that North Carolina is the third largest producing state of Strawberries following California and Florida. So when the strawberry season hit....we went pickin'!!!! The boys had so much fun. They did not know which was better, eating the strawberries off the vines or picking as many at one time. We carried home two full, flat boxes of strawberries....enough to give to our friends. Mom then had to find some strawberry recipes....we ended up making a strawberry cake, strawberry jam and just eating strawberries. We are excited for blueberry season!!!!

Summer garden update

I finally was able to finish up the planting for the summer garden this morning....and I weeded it too. It took some time because I had to sit on a stool and move down row by row, but it is planted and ready to grow. Here are some pictures of the garden. I must say I am proud of myself for getting it done with Kevin away. The best part is that the vegetables are growing. I look forward to what we can eat the upcoming months.

A front view of the garden - planted and weeded.

My big boy tomatoes, sprouting.

My sugar snap peas and cherry tomatoes.

The beds where I planted summer squash, butternut squash and zucchini.

My sprouting carrots.

My lettuce. So excited for them to get a bit bigger and ready to pinch off!

A bed that had peppers, but I don't think they made it. I have now planted more lettuce and cherry tomatoes.

William, the soccer king

Here is a video of William at soccer practice last week. They played a game of shirts vs yellow shirts. It was William's turn to throw the play back in for play. I don't think the video would have turned out better if I had planned it....William throwing the ball and hitting his teammate in the head then quickly running to protect the goal. It was pretty fun to watch. Enjoy.

A rite of passage.....

Our house has experienced its first rite of passage in raising boys.....our first broken bone. William fell yesterday afternoon and broke his left elbow. We had a great morning and then things just went down hill after the fall. Yesterday was our VTC with Daddy and the boys and I loved every minute of our special conference time with Dad. Little did Dad know that the day would take its turn. When we got home, Gaga was busy working on the front yard plantings. I decided to set up this new kiddie pool I purchased for the boys. Instead of inflatable sides it has a plastic side that stands upright when filled with water. Simple, right. Well, William jumps in the pool and goes to jump out and gets his feet tangled in the siding and happens to land just right on his elbow that it breaks. After assessing it and a call to the on-call doctor, we are off to the ER. Sometime later we are home with some pain meds and a new clothing accessory for William. Monday we visit the orthopedic surgeon to determine if a cast is sufficient to heal the break or if he will need surgery. William spent the rest of the afternoon lounging and trying to avoid the brute named as Paul. Paul just doesn't understand why his brother can't run and play with him and often tries to get William going, but instead ends up hitting him in his broken elbow. You have to love sibling love....it is the greatest!

Daddy did call last night before bedtime and William was so excited and happy to talk to Dad about his broken bone. They shared broken bone stories and William felt much better. Sometimes a call from Dad is the right medicine and just what is needed.

Now William is adjusting to the idea of life without soccer, wrestling, baseball, THE Wii!!!!!, swimming, bike riding, etc. It is starting to settle in and he seems to be okay. We'll see how it goes. Good thing is, if he does a cast it will come off right when his sister is due to make her appearance and summer begins. Great timing!!!!!

Nesting, nesting, and more nesting

It seems my nesting instincts have moved from Catherine's room to the front flower beds. I can't seem to keep out of Lowe's or buying plants. We went last week and got some more perennials for the side flower bed by the garage. My mother has been trying to find the time to plant them and it seems to be slipping away. Yesterday we finally got the front flower beds finished and now need to plant some day lillies in the back by the vegetable garden. Here are the finished photos.

The front/side flower bed with some new plants....Twilight Primrose.

The front flower bed by the garage with two beds of Sorbet Peonies and Plantation Lily Hostas. I love the look of the Peonies and the smell divine. It is really hard for me not to go back to Lowe's and purchase more, or to cut all the flowers and put them in a vase. They may be my new favorite flower.

Soccer season

The boys started soccer this year thru Sandhills Futboll Club. Actually, soccer is for Paul because William wanted to participate in Wrestling again. However, when we went to soccer William was able to participate and really liked it. So now both boys are doing soccer. This is beginning soccer so they are learning how to do the basic moves and playing games. They love it. Here are some pics and video from last week's practice.
